A Winnebago County jury has awarded $450,000 to a man who was beaten by three off-duty police officers.
The jury found that former Richmond police officer Brian Quilici was acting officially when he attacked Ryan Hallett of Twin Lakes, Wis. outside a Fox Lake bar on Feb. 20, 2005. The jury also determined Monday that Quilici used excessive force, failed to intervene, and denied Hallett medical aid.
Earlier this year, Hallett settled civil claims against former police officers Ron Pilati and Jerome Volstad, the village of Spring Grove, and the woman who were with the officers.
Quilici had been convicted of five felonies, including mob action and official misconduct. Pilati and Volstad accepted misdemeanor plea bargains last year.
Quilici's attorney, Vince Solano, said afterward his client respects the jury's verdict
