The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office is charging 47-year-old Mark Baker with misdemeanor battery.
Baker is the vice-president of the Shirland School Board. According to the student's mother, Vicki Deberry, her six-year-old son was teasing Baker while the vice-president was playing catch with his son.
Deberry says Baker became upset and whipped the football at her son. Baker's attorney says his client is innocent.
