Whitmire and two accomplices entered the residence on N. Meridian Road in search of guns and money, on the mistaken belief that the residence would be unoccupied. In the course of the illegal entry into the home, one of Whitmire's accomplices, 14 year old Travis Castle, was shot and killed.

Today, the 17 year old Whitmire pled guilty to Residential Burglary, a non-probationable Class 1 felony, and was sentenced to 12 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. In exchange for the plea of guilty, the State dismissed charges of felony murder and home invasion.

Whitmire’s sentence was the result of his cooperation with law enforcement and the prosecution in this matter. He has been held in custody since his arrest. Whitmire’s accomplices, 19 year old Cody Moore and 16 year old Justin Doyle, previously pled guilty to home invasion and involuntary manslaughter.
