The Northern Illinois Food Bank is giving a big helping hand to the Stateline's hungry.
Around 50 volunteers turned out today to help out with the Food Bank's meal box program. Working at lightning speed, they prepared 15,000 boxes today, taking a nice chunk out of the 24,000 they plan to prepare before the season is over.
The boxes will be delivered to food pantries, shelters and other agencies for distribution to those in need. But this good deed would never get done without the community's support.
"One way we can help people is providing food to them and we're fortunate enough to have people in this community who are willing to rally and make these food boxes available," says Dennis Smith, the executive director of the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
Food can be dropped off at any of the Northern Illinois Food Bank's area locations.
