“The American people voted for change and they voted for the Democrats to take our people in a new direction, and that is exactly what we intend to do.”
They are words that could have many Republicans worried. Now that the political leadership differs between the House of Representatives and the White House both parties will have to try harder to find common ground, something that Congressman Don Manzullo says is done locally all the time.
“We have always been able to do bipartisan work because of our relationship with Senator Durbin and also Senator Obama but he hasn’t been around as long.”
One of the biggest issues is the war in Iraq. But Manzullo says the decision to go in has been made, and it doesn't matter that the congress is controlled by the Democrats. They will still vote to fund the war.
