International Adoptions

As you just watched on Oprah-- pop star Madonna is defending herself from criticism, after she adopted of a baby from Malawai, Africa in a rush. So just how easy is it for the average family to adopt a foreign child?

The Rockford-based Children's Home & Aid Society sets up both domestic and international adoptions. The organization's adoptions program manager Peggy Franklin says the process to adopt a child born in the US usually takes longer.

But adopting a foreign child has it's own complications. It can take between six months and two years to adopt a child, depending on the country. The group has set up 115 international adoptions over the past 13 years.
