Getting our kids to say no to drugs is one of the most important parts of parenting. Today, some local groups are turning life lessons into games at the Red Ribbon Fun Fair.
Hundreds of kids got to learn about the effects of smoking, drinking alcohol and doing drugs. They pledged to stay away from the bad stuff and succeed in school. Parents say it's important kids learn about healthy living at a young age.
"If they learn this at an early age, they'll tend to follow it when they're older they've already made a commitment today which is something they'll remember," says Julie Rasmussen, a mother who attended today's event.
Miss Illinois Heidi Ekstrom was on hand at the event to award 100 local students for service projects and volunteer work.
