Winnebago County has the highest crime rate in the state for 2001.
Illinois state police say the statistic isn’t just alarming compared to the other 96 counties, but also when compared to last year.
The counties crime rate jumped more than four percent in 2001. There were over 66 crimes committed per every 1,000 people in the county to make it the highest in the state.
In response to these dreary statistics, area law enforcement officials have already begun to look for ways to cut down on crime.
Stephenson County has the 12th highest crime rate out of 97 counties. Boone is 45th and Ogle is 73rd. For a complete list of Illinois counties and their crime rates, log onto www.isp.state.il.us
