Board Delays Vote on GED Fee Increase

The vote was delayed because some advocates complain that increased costs could force some people to choose between their education and basic necessities.

Because of budget cuts, State Schools Superintendent Robert Schiller had proposed increasing the fee for the GED test to $80 from the current cost of $35.

After hearing public testimony today in Chicago, the State Board of Education decided to look for other alternatives, including asking the Legislature for more money.
