Philip Morris Back in Court Over Appeal Bond

The company says it shouldn't have to come up with the entire amount of the judgment before appealing the case.

Plaintiffs say the law requires the whole amount be posted in a bond before any appeal is filed.

An appellate court last month agreed with the plaintiffs' side, and ordered Judge Nicholas Byron to hold a hearing on the matter.

1.1 million Illinois smokers won the judgment earlier this year in a lawsuit over light cigarettes.

They argued they were tricked into believing light cigarettes are less harmful than regular brands.
