Governor: Another Early Retirement Program, Borrowing Under Review

By  |

That's the verdict from Gov. Blagojevich Tuesday at Agriculture Day at the State Fair.

The governor says his office is looking at another early retirement program to further cut out waste and streamline state government.

Last year's program led to 11,000 vacancies and helped the governor close this year's $5 billion budget deficit.

Blagojevich also says the state might do more short-term borrowing to pay a mountain of bills overdue to businesses and health care providers.

The governor says both ideas are in the very early stages of discussion but could be pursued if they can save the state money without hurting services.
