Shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday night, Rockford Rescue Crews were called to respond to the Rock River, just off Water Street for a water rescue.
A young boy and his friend were playing near the river. A nine-year-old boy went in. Crews walked the shoreline and then divers were brought in. The nine-year-old boy was under water for almost a half an hour. Crews say the rescue was fairly quick since the boy's friend was able to point out the area he went under.
The Rockford Fire Department says the boy was found about 13 feet under water.
