In-home caregivers sign a new contract with the state that includes wage increases.

Caregivers or personal assistants have been fighting for a wage increase for several months. Local 8-80 union members care for hundreds of Illinois's elderly and disabled residents in their homes.

Rockford caregiver Christine Wilson cares for her disabled daughter 24 hours a day. She's paid by the state for a few hours each day, but says she's saving the state a lot of money.

The new contract includes wage increases through 2007. With the initiative pay hike, caregivers are making about $7.25 an hour
