A windy day causes several brush fires to get out of control, including one in Pecatonica that spread to a welding business and destroyed it. It happened at Tapp Family Farm welding in the 18,000 block of Brick School Road. That's near Pecatonica and Trask Bridge Roads. Fire officials say the owner was burning brush when the fire spread rapidly. The wind is mostly to blame. They say the building is a complete loss. No damage estimates are available at this time. But it was tough for authorities to get a handle on the fire at first.
"Tanks in there were blowing up when we arrived so it made it an awkward position for us to try to attack it with explosions going on," says Pecatonica Fire Chief Steve VanVleck.
No one was inside the business at the time. No injuries are reported.
