ROCKFORD (WIFR) – We can expect several new construction projects in Rockford soon, as several businesses plan to expand.
Businesses like Rockford Memorial Hospital and companies constructing new stores are adding up to about $41 million in construction. That’s the highest number in five years. City workers say there’s big projects like Meijer however, people are also sprucing up their homes.
“People rather than building new houses are investing in their existing homes and doing work there so we’re seeing a lot of permits for that. Permits shift from new homes over the past several years to remodelings," said Building Code Official Seth Sommer.
Sommer says other big scale projects include the Rosecrance Center on Main and loft apartments in downtown Rockford.
