A measure to once again, allow horse slaughtering in Illinois is gaining support tonight.
Today the Illinois house partially passed a measure to lift a two-year-old ban on horse slaughtering. That ban led to the shut down of Cavel International in DeKalb. it was the last remaining horse slaughterhouse in the U.S.
Local representative Jim Sacia is pushing for the measure. The plan may include a $25 fee on slaughtered horses to appease animal-rights groups. The money would then be given to horse organizations to fund non-slaughter alternatives.
The measure now moves to the full house.

If horse slaughter resumes here this will be a huge step backward for our country. Look at the history and see what contributions have been made to the communities where they have previously operated. NONE! They are a drain on them. They do not employ locals, but attract illegals. The pro-slaughter people cry that it's to end the suffering for the injured. That will mean much needed pain drugs will be withheld for a minimum of 6 months prior to slaughter. Most horses have been given drugs throughout their lives that are not to be given to animals intented as food..EVER. We Americans don't eat dogs, cats or horses and we certaintly don't need to enable the barbaric behavior of those that do.

i have horses as well but i do think we need the horse slaughter in the us. i love my horses but there is a lot of them that no one wants or are unsafe i have a frind that got one off a truck going to slaughter it was fine till we tured it out and it would kick and try to run you down stomping and bitting she had to pay to have it traped and then put down and taken away to the cost of $550.00 when she paid $300.00 to save it! I know good ones get sent also but they wouldnt have to go to mexico or canada were they dont care how it is done. i have also taken in very good horses that the family could not take care of anymore then found them homes not many pep can pay to take care of them anymore and they dont feed them or dump them out i heard of pep going to a trail ride and when they get back they had two horses tied to the trailer i do have a heart i would reather not see horses being under feed or have to go on a very long ride to canada or mexico but if they had to go then the us would be the better place to do it ! then maybe there wouldnt be that many being abused aswell!!!a cow is also one of gods creatures do you try and stop the slaughter of them ?

Horse slaughter is one of the most cruel acts anyone could ever be in favor of. I own horses and they are smart, loving and one has even assisted my friend when they got hurt with no one around. Helping to get him to safety. The people who are in favor of this are ignorant, heartless idiots. Or they like so many have no other way to make a living other than at the expense of a poor helpless animal that was probably someones loyal pet that fell through the cracks. An animal does not have a voice to speak for it's self.So to those people that think horses need to be slaughtered or taken to Mexico or Canada you are all ignorant and heartless, and I pray that one day real soon you'll get a heart and a BRAIN. "Who knows maybe one day you or your children will own a horse and you'll know the true joy they bring as creatures of God"
