UPDATE: Fallout from San Jose Shooting Continues

Fatal Traffic Crash, Shooting Investigations


Shortly after 1:00 A.M. on Sunday, November 04, 2012 Rockford Police were dispatched to the San Jose Nightclub, 3780 East State Street for a large fight. While responding a Rockford Police Sergeant observed a vehicle traveling recklessly and at a high rate of speed west bound in the 1900 block of East State Street. As this vehicle passed the Sergeant gunfire was heard emanating from the vehicle. The vehicle then lost control, struck another vehicle and a utility pole. Occupants of the vehicle fled on foot and were not apprehended.


Officers arriving at San Jose Nightclub located on adult male with a gunshot wound to his lower extremity. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

Within minutes of this occurrence Rockford Police were dispatched to the 4400 block of Center Terrace for a personal injury accident. Within minutes after that call Rockford Police were sent to the 900 block of 18th Street for an injury accident. Upon arrival at 4400 Center Terrance Officers located three occupants with severe injuries and they were transported to local hospitals. One of these victims was pronounced dead at the hospital and the two others are listed in critical condition. The deceased victim had traumatic injuries from the car crash, as well as a gunshot wound to his body.


The sole occupant of the car crash on 18th Street was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and charges of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol are pending.


Two other adult males arrived at local hospitals with non-life threatening gunshot wounds to their extremities. One of these victims claims to have been shot while at the San Jose Nightclub. The location where the other male sustained his gunshot wound is still under investigation.


The 4400 block of Center Terrace will be closed for the remainder of the morning.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department and the Illinois State Police assisted on these investigations.


Names of the victims are not being released at this time. These incidents are currently under investigation.

UPDATE: Two new developments in the San Jose nightclub shooting.

A second man involved has died. 26-year-old C.L. Phillips died of a head injury he got in a related car crash.

We've also learned two men, allegedly linked to that night club shooting are now in police custody. 24-year-old Scotty Valentine and a 16-year-old are charged with yesterday's shooting on Winnebago street. Police say that incident was gang-related fall-out from the club shooting two weekends ago.

UPDATE: Rockford Police release more information about overnight shooting and fatal car crash.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – It has been a busy night for the Rockford Police Department, after they investigate a quadruple shooting outside of a nightclub and two separate car crashes.

One person is dead; police believe the victim was apart of the gunfire at the San Jose Nightclub on East State Street. We're told he was in a car that crashed near Alpine and Center Terrace. Two others are listed in critical condition.

Police were called to the nightclub around 2:45 a.m. Sunday. Witnesses say a fight broke out and four people were shot, they are expected to be ok.

Police are also looking into another car crash at Summit and State Street.
