The fire broke out around 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening at 1015 23rd Street. Fire officials say that someone driving by this house saw flames shooting out of the windows and called 9-1-1.
When the fire department arrived, no one was home. Crews worked to quickly contain the blaze to the living room. The fire was extinguished within five minutes. Though the burn time was short, the fire destroyed most of the contents in the home.
The American Red Cross has been called in to provide housing for the family. Damage is estimated around $5,000. The smoke damage the fire department says has left the house unlivable. The family was shopping at Logli's when the fire broke out. They say they are just glad no one was injured.
An investigation is underway to try and determine the cause of this fire.
