The county tried to Block River Bluff nursing home and county clerk employees from striking, saying their absence would create a danger to the community.
State labor board members ruled otherwise and urged county leaders to work to avert the strike. More than 300 county workers voted to strike after the county would not meet its pay increase requests.
Contract talks between AFSCME local 473 and county leaders have been scheduled for Wednesday morning. Workers could walk out if the negotiations are unsuccessful creating serious challenges for Winnebago County offices and the court system.
