Stateline Stimulus
As we get closer to the votes on the federal stimulus plan, the Rockford area hopes to benefit from a laundry list of improvements.

All together, there's about $1.5 billion worth of local requests from the stimulus plan.
Area leaders realize getting all of that is impossible. But pieces of it could still come our way.
There's a continued push for funding rail service to the region, like Amtrak, as well as updating old freight lines near the Rockford Airport. Road projects, like replacing Rockford's old Morgan Street bridge, are also on the wish list.
So is money for a new Downtown Rockford Convention Center and school expansion in Belvidere, Rockton and Rockford.
Janyce Fadden, with the Rockford Area Economic Development Council, says all of this would help our area and the economic hits we've taken over the past year.
"These physical infrastructures in our community will put people back to work so it's really important to us that we achieve as much as we can from the stimulus package," Fadden said.
Fadden adds that there are also less tangible benefits from the stimulus plan, like tax breaks and extended unemployment benefits, that could directly impact the Stateline area.
It's not just cities across Illinois pushing for federal stimulus money.
Wisconsin leaders are hoping for at least $2.5 billion dollars, to cover everything from road repairs to help balancing the state budget.
