BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities in Kankakee County have completed an autopsy on a 23-year-old man who died after exchanging gunfire with officers during a traffic stop.
Chief Deputy Kankakee County Coroner Chuck Wilson says Jason Mayhood of Bradley died from a gunshot that hit him in the left arm and continued into his torso.
Wilson says Mayhood also suffered a head injury when he fell to the ground and bruising from a bean-bag round deputies fire at him earlier in the incident.
Authorities say a sheriff's deputy tried to stop Mayhood's car yesterday in Bourbonnais and he led them on a short chase. Officials say Mayhood eventually got out of the car and he shot at officers, who returned fire.
