Fiestas Patrias in Rockford on September 16th

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Rockford Area Mexican Business Association is happy to announce their first annual Fiestas Patrias Parade and Festival on Saturday, September 16, 2006. The parade will kick-off at 12:00 pm at the corner of Broadway and 11th Streets in Rockford and end at Marinelli Field in Blackhawk Park on 15th Avenue and South Main.

The Fiesta, scheduled from 2:00 - 9:30 pm will include entertainment by local and regional bands and entertainers, food, activities for the children, prizes and much more.

"We hope to make this an annual event and invite the public to join us," said Isidro Barrios, President of the Association. "Thanks to the great encouragement and support we have received from the Park District, Insight Communications, Joe Marino of the 4th of July Committee and many others, we feel we can begin a new tradition in Rockford where people of all backgrounds can come together to celebrate our diverse community."

A donation of $3.00 per person (children under 10 are free) will go to offset the costs of the festival and help the Association to provide seminars, workshops, training, networking and educational opportunities for Hispanic business owners.

Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries - Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico declared its independence on September 16, and Chile on September 18. (Fiestas Patrias means Patriotic Festivals.)
