Air Force Won't Prosecute F-16 Pilots for Mistaken Bombing

The mother of one of the Canadian peacekeepers killed in a mistaken bombing in Afghanistan last year says she isn't surprised by the decision not to court-martial the pilots.

But Claire Leger says she is disappointed.

Her son Sergeant Marc Leger died and she says she wants to see the Illinois pilots lose their ability to fly.

The Air Force won't court-martial the two pilots who mistakenly bombed the Canadian troops, killing four.

That's according to a senior defense official who spoke only on the condition of anonymity.

The defense official says the Air Force officer who reviewed the case decided that Majors Harry Schmidt and William Umbach should not face criminal prosecution but receive non-judicial punishment.
