Petition signatures were the focus of Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey's day, as he turned in the maximum of nearly 2,700.
Mayor Morrissey can now formally be added to the ballot within five days, for April's election.
As an independent candidate, Morrissey had to collect a minimum of nearly 1,700 signatures. That's a significant difference compared to the 25 signatures needed from republican or democratic candidates.
The Rockford Mayor says today is really a celebration of volunteers, and his hat goes off to a very special one.
Morrissey kicked off his campaigning in November with a new slogan; "Our Rockford." He says the mayoral election isn't just about one person, it's about the future for all of Rockford's people.
