Three children are in serious condition at Swedish American after being it by a car. It happened at the intersection of Kishwaukee St. and Brooke Rd. in Rockford at around 7 pm.
Police say the driver was headed northbound on Kishwaukee St. when the kids, all between eight and nine years old, darted out into the street. At that point, the driver swerved left to avoid them, but was unable. Rockford police say all parents can learn from this tragedy.
"Parents just have to keep a close eye on their children and they have to teach the child about the safety of walking along the roadway and crossing the street. The kids just have to use caution," says Sgt. Sam Pobjecky of the Rockford Police Department.
Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in this accident.
