Lawsuit Says Industrial Park Contamination Threatens Neighbors' Water

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and DuPage County State's Attorney Joseph Birkett filed a lawsuit Wednesday against six occupants of a Downers Grove industrial park over alleged water contamination.

The lawsuit accuses six occupants of the Ellsworth Industrial Park with discharging industrial solvents trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE) into the groundwater.

Madigan said the lawsuit seeks to require the defendants to provide an alternative water source to neighbors whose wells may have become contaminated with the chemicals.

The attorney general says the contamination has spread to an area including some 800 homes that rely on private wells for drinking water.
