Schools in Stephenson County started classes Friday. With so many hitting the books it caused quite an absence on the Ferris Wheel.
It was a quiet day at the Stephenson County Fair. Fewer kids took to the rides and the food stands were empty as well. One sausage vendor says she expects to lose about $1500 this week due to lack of attendance. She says stopping at 25 fairs in the Midwest can put a damper on the profits.
The director of the Stephenson county fair says numbers have not been calculated yet for this year's fair. In year's past about 100,000 people attend the fair.
He says next year's date may change in the future so it doesn't conflict with school starting.
