There have been several people that have drowned in Illinois. Three in Wilmington, three in Yorkville and last week a 29-year-old man was swept away by a current in Oregon. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is asking people to understand and respect the power of water near dams and says stay away. Illinois Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn says the state will hire experts to assess safety at 25 river dams including one in Oregon and one in Rockford. The danger comes from circulating currents that form below the dam. Officials say the engineering assessment will should be finished by spring.
