BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- A 14-year-old southwestern Illinois boy who sexually attacked a 12-year-old girl after forcing her into a shed will be spending the next five years on probation.
Lenzburg Police Chief Skip Mize says a St. Clair County judge sentenced the boy this week, after his conviction of aggravated criminal sexual assault.
The boy will be required to register as a sex offender and be monitored with an ankle bracelet.
Authorities say the boy attacked the girl in May while she was walking home near the Lenzburg village park. The girl went home and told her parents, who called police. The boy was arrested a short time later.
The Lenzburg boy's name isn't being released because he's a juvenile.
