"Cramming" Crackdown

Attorney General Lisa Madigan has announced that a lawsuit has been filed against two California companies and their owners for allegedly "cramming" businesses in Illinois. Cramming is when charges are added to a consumer's telephone bill that was never specifically ordered or wanted. This can happen easily when a small business takes on a free-trial service and does not cancel within 30 days and as a result incurs charges on the next phone bill. To file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office consumers can call 1-800-243-0618.
