Two major road construction projects began in Rockford Monday. They could both cause some major traffic headaches.
Crews began work on the long-awaited Harrison Avenue project. The first step was putting up temporary traffic lights at Alpine and Harrison. A spokesman for Rockford's Department of Public Works says we'll really start to notice the construction on Wednesday. He says crews are expected to start removing the median then. That will allow workers to close one lane in each direction.
Work is also underway on Perryville and East State Street. Perryville will be widened, and turn lanes will be added. At times, traffic will be reduced to two lanes in each direction. Crews will also be working on the project during overnight hours. The project is expected to be completed by late November.
