After rescuing victims inside a burning building two Rockford men are being hailed as heroes. Both were honored at Monday night’s Rockford City Council meeting. They were awarded the Maltese Cross Award for their selfless act of courage. Back in June, 17-year-old Kenny Niner and 46-year-old Dave Zarembski rescued a 5-year-old and a 19-year-old who were trapped inside their burning home on Jackson Street.
Kenny says, "I saved the life of my friends and they might not of been here is we didn't do what we had to do." Dave states, “I'm proud of what we were able to do being in the right place and having the reaction. God puts people in the right place at the right time.”
Firefighters say the two trapped inside the home would not have escaped without injury if it wasn't for Kenny and Dave.
