The Democratic governor gets to appoint a successor to Obama, who has been elected president.

Blagojevich spoke yesterday to U.S. Representative Danny Davis. The Hill newspaper reports he also contacted two other members of Congress, Janice Schakowsky and Luis Gutierrez.

Davis says Blagojevich just talked with him in general about the Senate position. Davis says the governor didn't ask detailed questions or indicate when he will fill the vacancy.

So far, Blagojevich has not contacted two people frequently mentioned for the Senate job, Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. and Veterans' Affairs director Tammy Duckworth.

A Blagojevich spokesman says there's no particular significance to who has spoken to the governor and who hasn't.
