Cher Postpones Concert

Cher has postponed Tuesday's much anticipated sold out concert tonight at the Metro Centre. Cher is apparently suffering from a severe throat infection.

Metro Centre officials are working with Cher's people to try to reschedule the date. Metro Centre officials say tonights tickets will be honored for the rescheduled show.

Cher cancelled Monday nights concert on her farewell tour in Peoria. She cancelled about a week ago apparently because of a movie commitment. She rescheduled her Peoria date for August. One of her dancers, Auburn High School grad Kevin Wilson says she is doing a movie and the tour at the same time and it apparently caught up with her.

Today is her 57th birthday (Tuesday).

Stateline Cher fans can't believe it. The pop diva won't be performing at Rockford's metro Centre Tuesday. A throat infection forced Cher to postpone, and just hours before the show was set to kick off, ticket holders learned the disappointing news.

Cher fans have been awaiting Tuesday's concert for months. They were excited to be a part of her farewell tour and Cher's 57th birthday celebration. Now they'll have to wait until august to see the show.

Murray and Hannah Nickolai came down to the Metro Centre to watch roadies unpack for Cher's show. Instead they arrived to see workers scrambling to load her equipment onto semi trucks, ready to roll on to another venue.

"One of the truck drivers said it was cancelled and we though funny joke. But we talked to someone at the box office and it's not a joke," says Murray Nickolai.

News of the cancellation spread quickly throughout downtown Rockford, but shocked fans had to see it for themselves.

"I was really stunned, shocked. I know this town's been looking forward to her coming. A lot of people I work with had tickets."

Many ticket holders had made plans with out of town friends, reserved hotel rooms, and planned for big night. They say they understand the situation, but still feel slighted.

"I was a bigger Cher fan before, about 15 minutes ago," Murray adds.

Metro Centre officials expressed their disappointment, but say Cher will come to Rockford the concert has been rescheduled. No refunds will be issued at this time.
