IDOT Workers Urged to Conserve Gas

I-DOT Secretary Timothy Martin says his agency's first priority is to maintain the safety of the driving public, but he says high fuel prices are forcing I-DOT to look at ways to cut costs.

Martin this month ordered his staff to cut fuel use by five percent.

He says that would save about 72,000 gallons of fuel and about $200,000 this year.

The conservation efforts mean, for example, that I-DOT's Highway Division plans to cut grass along interstates only two times this summer, instead of three.
