Every year, thousands of children suffer head and even brain injuries while riding their bikes. Local lawyers are doing their part to try and bring that number down.
To raise awareness about the dangers of children riding their bikes without a helmet, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association distributed bicycle helmets. The first 50 kids who showed up at the Winnebago County Health Department rode away with some added protection. The helmets are for bike riders, skate boarders and kids who ride scooters.
Throughout the summer, the Illinois Trial Lawyers will distribute over 600 free helmets to children across the state. Safety seat checks were also conducted at today's bike helmet giveaway in order to make sure children are also properly buckled in
