Topinka Makes Proposals to Ensure Vets Get Preference in State Jobs

Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s administration has been criticized for maneuvering around veterans' preference laws.

Topinka wants state agencies to certify they follow veterans’ preference laws and she wants to create a veterans hiring compliance panel that would be headed by the state's lieutenant governor.

Blagojevich's campaign said if Topinka supported veterans she would back his veterans’ health care program.

Topinka said the state shouldn't add new programs until its budget woes have been solved.
