The Power To Issue A Smoking Ban

By  |

Any municipality in Illinois now has the right to ask you to put that cigarette out. No smoking signs may be more visible now that all municipalities can decide to ban or not to ban lighting up in public places. Changes were made to the Illinois Clean Indoor Air Act to allow non-home rule communities to prohibit smoking. Before, only home rule municipalities could regulate smoking in public places. Communities can regulate smoking in all enclosed public places like restaurants, bars and bowling alleys. Rockton Village President Dale Adams tells 23 News that the village would most likely not enforce this new law. Adams says it's up to individual businesses to decide. The law goes into effect immediately.
