It's a summer to be vigilant. That's the message from Janesville Police, because five out of six attacks took place in the summer sun.
Officials report that they believe a serial rapist has been on the loose in the area since 1998. One man is allegedly responsible for six break-ins and several sexual assaults since 1998. Each incident has happened between May and October.
The department says they have DNA that will help them positively identify or clear any suspect. Since the last break-in last July, public tips led to police requesting DNA samples from 55 people.
The state crime lab has cleared 48 of those people.
