West Nile Found in Freeport

First Winnebago County, and now Stephenson; the West Nile Virus is spreading in the stateline.

A dead crow found in Freeport has tested positive for the mosquito-borne illness. The Health Department has tested 14 birds already this year.

If you find a dying or dead bird in your yard, contact your local health department. In Stephenson County, the phone number is 599-0344.

Health officials say we should stay inside around dawn and dusk. They say it's also a good idea to wear bug repellent with deet.
