SHANNON — The family of a Shannon man who was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Sept. 27 is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver who initially struck the victim and fled the scene.
Jeffrey W. Hammer, 49, of Shannon was killed on Sept. 27 shortly after 1 a.m., after being hit by two cars near the intersection of Bolton Road and Hershey Road in rural Shannon. Hammer was reportedly walking south on or adjacent to the roadway when he was struck by a northbound car, which reportedly fled the scene. Some time later, Hammer was struck by a second northbound vehicle. The driver of this vehicle, whose name has not been released, stayed with the victim at the scene and contacted authorities.
Investigators and family members are hoping the reward will lead someone to come forward with information about the identity of this unknown driver.
Police are looking for an emerald green GMC car. It may be a 1997 or 1998 Chevrolet Malibu or Oldsmobile Cutlass, and would likely have right side damage including a missing right side outside mirror.
If you have information about the driver or the car, contact the sheriff’s office at (815) 235-8252.
