MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) -- Hearts were pumping at Harlem High School Sunday morning as hoopsters showed off their best shots.
It was all part of a scholarship fundraiser in honor of the REACT team killed in a helicopter crash. First responders from various fields made up teams for the three on three basketball tournament about 20 teams took part. The Rockford Police Union hosted the tourney to raise money for a nursing scholarship in honor of the fallen react crew.
“You feel it's such a tragic event and you know, we treat that as, just like losing someone in the line of duty. It's the same thing,” says Andrew Hartman from the Rockford Police Department.
Organizers hope to raise about $2,500.
