An alleged car-jacker is recovering after being shot at the end of a high-speed chase Tuesday.
His injury is not considered life threatening. According to police, it started early around 5 a.m. at a truck stop near Hampshire when 23-year-old Saban Habibovic of Chicago attracted attention selling electronics out of the trunk of his car.
He fled onto Interstate 90 after being confronted by police, but not before injuring one officer and driving at another. Habibovic headed toward Wisconsin at a high speed, losing control and rolling his car. He got out, threaten another driver with a knife that stopped to check on him. And then hijacked that car.
Back in Illinois, Habibovic struck a truck and escaped on foot. Winnebago County sheriff's deputies and Roscoe police confronted him after attempting to take a second vehicle. He was shot after lunging at the officers.
Officers from three local counties were involved in the chase. A long list of charges is awaiting Habibovic as a result.
