At the 35th Annual Young at Heart Festival, the most popular spot Sunday was anywhere people saw the word "cold." Vendors that sold ice cream, water, pop, or lemonade benefited from heat.
But others say concession sales were slow and vendors say they would sell more in the rain. The Young at Heart festival has one more day. Sunday was Caribbean music day. The festival opened at 11 a.m.
Season pass sales hit a new all-time record at Magic Waters and this weekend could set some new opening weekend attendance numbers. In the 23 seasons that Magic Waters has been open longtime workers say this is one of their busiest opening weekends.
On this sizzling Sunday well over 4,000 people came out to cool off. Memorial Day weekend can be touch and go in the water park industry, but Assistant Manager Reid Tennant said, “Usually Memorial Day weekend there's a lot going on but with the weather being unseasonably warm like this it's bringing them out like we normally have in July. So we are real pleased with the way it's kicking off this weekend."
The Rockford Park District has owned the water park since 1988. The park is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
