Dennis Hastert is the House of Representatives’ voice for local communities like Dixon and Dekalb, but he is much more. He is the Speaker of the House and the second in line for the presidency, and he could be entangled in a very well publicized scandal.
Wednesday ABC national news reported that Hastert is currently under investigation for corruption. Convicted Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff has reportedly been giving FBI agents information about his interactions with Hastert as part of his plea agreement with the government. Hastert most recently made news when he criticized the FBI’s search and seizure of a Louisiana congressman's office records
Hastert’s communications director sent out a release saying, “The ABC news report is absolutely untrue. As confirmed by the justice department, speaker Hastert is not under investigation by the Justice Department. We are demanding a full retraction of the ABC news story.”
