A man led Rockford police on a high speed chase, but his getaway plan backfired. The car's two front tires actually tore off as officers finally caught up with the suspect.
It started earlier Monday afternoon after an officer ran a random check on a license plate. The driver, Marlin Powell, noticed the police officer and sped away. Powell eventually lost control of his car, hit a curb, and then a pole. Powell was arrested near 4th Avenue and 10th Street.
Police found drugs and a wad of cash inside the car. He's now charged with aggravated fleeing, driving with a suspended license and resisting arrest.
