It's a choice between convienence and savings. More and more gas stations across the Stateline are offering us a lower price for gas if we pay with cash. We spoke with two enthusiastic Road Ranger customers. David Jones says, "I think it's a great idea. More stations oughtta do that." Rose Kieth adds, "Oh I like it. I'd rather pay cash if I can get it cheaper."

We spoke with several retailers, both those who offer the discount and those who don't, and they told us credit companies take a cut of the sale every time we use our cards at the pump. As fuel costs soar to over four dollars a gallon, gas companies are looking for a way to lessen their load by lightening our wallets.

When we buy our gas with cash the station cuts out the credit card fees it has to pay, So its no surprise that some gas companies are offering us an incentive to break out our bills. But saving a few cents just isn't worth it to some people. More Road Ranger customers chime in, "I personally use my credit card and I like the convienence. It saves me a couple of extra minutes of going inside. I'll just pay the extra nickel. It doesn't bother me any." says Brad Shamblin. "I still use pretty much credit card because it's an easy way for me to document my costs." adds Ken Conti.

We were able to find several road ranger stations offering a 5 cent discount per gallon if we pay with cash and we also found a few shell stations offering a 10 cent discount. Gas stations say they are offering us a discount if we pay with cash. But some of the customers we spoke with suggested they are really just imposing a fee on us for using a credit card.
