Iasparro says he's been talking to Winnebago County Sheriff Dick Meyers for several years. Through some internal restructuring, an opportunity became available and after giving it a lot of thought, Iasparro says, he's ready for the next chapter.
Iasparro says he loves and respects the police department dearly, a place he's worked his entire adult life. Iasparro says his goal is to bring his expertise with narcotics enforcement and gang issues to the sheriff's department.
Iasparro says his greatest memories will be of the dedicated people he's worked with and the people in the community he's worked to help.
As deputy chief at the sheriff's department, Iasparro will oversee around 10 detectives. Currently, he's in charge of 60 detectives. Iasparro's last day will be Wednesday. He plans to relax with his family before starting at the sheriff's department on June 5.
