Military officials today say Army Specialist Ron Gebur of Delavan died Saturday in the roadside attack in Baghdad.
Gebur was assigned as a sniper with the U-S Army Fourth Infantry Division, which is stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.
Deborah Gebur says her son joined the military to follow in the footsteps of his grandfathers, who both served in Korea.
Gebur joined the National Guard after graduating from Delavan High School in 2002, then enlisted in the Army about two years later. He began his first tour of Iraq in December.
Survivors include his wife, a U-S Army medic, and a nine-month-old son.
(Delavan is about 25 miles south of Peoria.)
