Saturday night many celebrated that fact that for the first time ever, Rockford has an Italian Sister City. A delegation of nine people from Ferrentino, Italy brought their culture to the Forrest City.
Organizers have been working on joining our city to Ferrentino for three years. It made sense because Rockford has a large Italian American population.
Valeri DeCastris says, “A Sister City is a partnership between two cities where you can promote culture, business, and education exchanges. Really it's just the beginning of a partnership that could blossom into a number of different areas."
The agreement between Rockford and Ferrentino, Italy will be finalized on Monday.
